A 21 year old Australian man who allegedly uploaded to the internet a pirated copy of The Simpsons Movie could face up to five years in prison.

According to authorities the recording of films in Australian cinemas is increasing with police attending several reported incidents of camcording across three states in the last six weeks. But what is more troubling is that with mobile phones becoming more sophisticated with high resolution cameras and sound recording built in, people are using mobiles to record the movies and then upload the “screener” to the internet.

It appears the “screener” was recorded in a cinema in the western suburbs of Sydney on Thursday 26th July and with in hours of it being recorded was up online this meant the movie was first identified on the Internet by the film's publisher Twentieth Century Fox within hours of its Australian premiere.

With the film released in Australian before the USA it mean hundreds of US connected Simpsons fans logged on and watched before the film had its first screening in the United States depriving the movies makers of revenue.
